Dead Rabbits Found In Fairfax Petland Freezer; Managers Arrested
Two former managers of the now-closed Fairfax Petland were arrested after a six-month long mistreatment investigation, according to police.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Two former managers of a now-closed Petland franchise in Fairfax City are facing animal cruelty charges after a months-long investigation revealed more than a dozen dead rabbits piled up in a freezer and hidden under a table in a back room at the store. Kareem Koshok, 38, of Manassas, and Ayman Koshok, 43, of Fairfax, are each charged with three counts animal cruelty, according to Fairfax City police.
The investigation, which began April 1, determined that both suspects failed to provide the proper care for animals under their supervision. According to a report by Inside NoVA, the Humane Society of the United States conducted the investigation by sending an undercover official to work at the store for two months.
Investigators also found the store, located at 9404 Main St., had no policy requiring medical care for the rabbits, which is mandated by Virginia state law.
