Lawyer for Jesse Matthew Seeks To Reschedule Local Trial: Media Report
Suspect faces charges in 2005 sexual assault case and in last year's disappearance of U.Va. student.

The lawyer for the man accused of murdering University of Virginia student Hannah Graham wants his trial in a separate Fairfax City case to be postponed, a Washington TV station reported Tuesday.

Jesse Matthew Jr., of Charlotteville, is scheduled to go on trial on June 8 in the Fairfax Circuit Court in a 2005 case on charges of attempted murder and sexual assault. The court building is in Fairfax City.
His lawyer said Tuesday that the defense needs more time to sift through thousands of pages of evidence gathered by the authorities, WRC-NBC Channel 4 reported.

Matthew is accused of attacking and sexually assaulting a 26-year-old woman as she walked home from a Fairfax City grocery store in September 2005. He was indicted in October for attempted capital murder, abduction with attempt to defile, and sexual penetration with an object. He has pleaded not guilty.
Matthew also faces charges of capital murder, first-degree murder and abduction with intent to defile in the Graham case. She vanished in September after a night out with friends, and her remains were found about five weeks later.
