Motorcyclist Dies in Fairfax Station Crash

Rider collided with truck on Route 123, says Fairfax County Police Department.

A 25-year-old Dumfries man died Monday night after succumbing to injuries he suffered in a motorcycle crash on Route 123, according to the Fairfax County police.

Jonathan Wesley Wright was thrown from his motorcycle and suffered life-threatening injuries on the scene, the police said. He was transported by a Fairfax County police helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at around 8 p.m.

No one else was injured in the crash, police said. No charges have been placed, and Fairfax County police are continuing to investigate the crash.

The accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Monday, when two motorcycles were traveling southbound on Route 123, approaching the intersection with Clifton Road in Fairfax Station, at what appeared to be a high rate of speed, police said.

A box truck was moving northbound on Route 123 and attempted to make a left turn onto Clifton Road. The motorcycle in the right lane passed in front of the truck and continued on. The rider remains unidentified. police said.

Crash reconstruction detectives with the Fairfax County police said they believe that Wright, the rider of the motorcycle in the left lane, tried to pass behind the truck and struck the left rear of the vehicle. He was thrown from his 2013 Ducati and suffered critical injuries.
