Murder Indictment Handed Down In Fatal Shooting Of Fairfax City Man

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — A Fairfax County grand jury indicted 33-year-old Joshua Danehower of Arlington on two counts of felony murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony on Tuesday, according to a release from Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano's office.

Danehower was charged in connection with fatal shooting of Fairfax City resident Gret Glyer, who was found shot to death in his bed the morning of June 24, 2022, according to police.

Officers in June said Danehower was an "acquaintance" of the family and that it was a tip that ultimately led to his arrest five days after Glyer's body was found.

"We conducted interviews. Someone came forward and said we should look at Danehower," police said during a June 29, 2022 news conference. "There is no reason to believe he was colluding with anyone, and we believe he acted alone."

Police linked Danehower to the crime after analyzing bullet casings found at the scene of the shooting, according to the release.

“My office takes violent crimes like these very seriously, and we are grateful to Detectives Trey Lightly and Matthew Greene for their excellent work on this case in pursuit of justice for the victim’s family and the community," Descano said, in the release.

A Jan. 19 trial date was set for Danehower.

Glyer was the CEO of DonorSee, a website that allows donors to give directly to people in need across the globe and receive video updates showing the impacts of their contributions. DonorSee has raised millions since it was started in 2016, according to its website.
