Northern Virginia Weather: Steady as She Goes

STERLING, VA — Following sporadic showers here and there tonight, Wednesday starts off mostly cloudy before a gradual clearing to mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 60s, according to the area headquarters of the National Weather Service.

Things are expected to cool down just a bit heading into the weekend.

Alas, rain is forecast for Friday and Friday night.

Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers between 11pm and 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 64. North wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 37. North wind 6 to 9 mph.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 55. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 42. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Friday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 58. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Friday Night: Showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 49. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
