Red Light Cameras: Four More Coming to Fairfax
The first will be installed next month, according to the City of Fairfax, and the rest in the spring, bringing the total number to eight.

FAIRFAX, VA — The city announced this week that four new traffic light cameras are being added at area intersections, beginning next month, that'll bring the total to eight.
The new locations:
- Eastbound Main Street @ Woodland Drive
- Southbound Lee Highway @ Jermantown Road
- Eastbound Fairfax Boulevard @ Jermantown Road
- Westbound Fairfax Boulevard @ Jermantown Road
The Main Street camera will be activated sometime in March, with the others to follow in the spring.

A study released last summer by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that red light camera programs in 79 large U.S. cities saved nearly 1,300 lives through 2014.
On the flip side, cities that shut down such programs caused the rate of fatal red-light-running crashes to increase by 30 percent.

Fairfax, which dubs its program Respect Red, has four such red light camera locations, the most recent of which was added last summer: North Street at University Drive, Fairfax Circle, Main Street at Pickett Road, and Fairfax Boulevard at Plantation Parkway.
