Twenties Age Group Most Infected With Coronavirus In Virginia
Virginia health officials reported 1,256 new positive tests Saturday, with the southwest region leading the way with 375 new cases.
VIRGINIA — Positive cases of the coronavirus keep adding up in Virginia. On Saturday, the Virginia Department of Health reported 1,256 people tested positive, lifting the cumulative total since the start of the pandemic to 157,905 cases. Since March, 11,501 Virginians have been hospitalized with COVID-19 and 3,354 people have died from the disease.
By region, the new cases on Saturday include 375 in the southwest region, 281 in the northern region, 221 in the eastern region, 212 in the central region and 167 in the northwest region. Since early August, the number of cases in the southwest region has been steadily increasing.
In Virginia, more women have been infected by the virus at 80,965 cases versus the 75,991 cases reported in men. No gender was reported for 949 cases in the state. People aged 20 to 29 account for 33,813 cases, or 21.4 percent of cases in the state, the largest infected case group in the state.

The health department is investigating 1,112 outbreaks of the coronavirus in the state as of Saturday, an increase of nine new outbreaks since the release of figures on Friday. Five new outbreaks were reported at long-term care facilities in the state, which now have a total of 11,397 positive cases and 1,653 deaths. Two new outbreaks were reported in both congregate settings and healthcare settings.
Across Virginia, 2,238,204 PCR tests have been completed, an increase of 18,694 since Friday. The statewide positive average of PCR tests stands at 4.7 percent as of Oct. 6. The southwest region's average of 6.3 percent is above the statewide average. Elsewhere in the state, the percent positive is 4.7 percent in the central region, 4.4 percent in the eastern region and 4.3 in both the northern and northwest regions.

COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased slightly from 963 to 943 since Friday. That includes 251 in the central region, 200 in the northern region, 194 in the eastern region, 188 in the southwest region and 112 in the northwest region.
According to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, the current hospitalizations, as of Saturday, include 208 in the intensive care units and 97 on ventilators. Ventilator use stands at 20 percent among all Virginia hospital patients, and ICU occupancy is at 82 percent. There are no hospitals reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment in the next 72 hours.
According to the association, 18,447 COVID-19 total patients have been discharged from hospitals, as of Saturday, since the start of the pandemic.

- Alexandria: 4,009 cases, 323 hospitalizations, 73 deaths; increase of 32 cases and one hospitalization
- Arlington County: 4,170 cases, 510 hospitalizations, 152 deaths; increase of 22 cases and one hospitalization
- Fairfax County: 21,861 cases, 2,190 hospitalizations, 599 deaths; increase of 125 cases, four hospitalizations and one death
- Fairfax City: 143 cases, 13 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of one case
- Falls Church: 74 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of one case
- Loudoun County: 7,181 cases, 447 hospitalizations, 128 deaths; increase of 44 cases and three hospitalizations
- Manassas: 1,980 cases, 130 hospitalizations, 24 deaths; increase of one case
- Manassas Park: 624 cases, 56 hospitalizations, eight deaths; no changes
- Prince William County: 13,079 cases, 943 hospitalizations, 213 deaths; increase of 75 cases and two hospitalizations
- Fredericksburg: 566 cases, 50 hospitalizations, five deaths; increase of three cases
- Spotsylvania County: 2,250 cases, 138 hospitalizations, 46 deaths; increase of 19 cases and one hospitalization
- Stafford County: 2,138 cases, 165 hospitalizations, 19 deaths; increase of 17 cases and one hospitalization
