FAIRFAX CITY, VA — A sign that reads "Z!EATS Coming Soon" has been hanging in the window of a vacant retail space at Scout on the Circle on Fairfax Boulevard for months. However, it appears that space won't be vacant for much longer.

Fairfax Circle LLC, the owner of the Scout development, obtained a work permit from the City of Fairfax on March 25 to prepare the storefront at 9414 Fairfax Blvd. for its new tenant, Z!Eats. The permit identified ITEK Construction & Consulting Inc. of Herndon as the project's contractor.

In February, WOWorks announced that it was rebranding Zoup!, a restaurant chain that specialized in serving chief-driven soups, as Z!EATS and introducing a new menu that "caters to health-conscious individuals seeking a remarkable dining experience," according to a company release.

"For over 25 years, Zoup! has reigned as an industry leader in creative soups, and the Z!Eats menu represents an extension of our soup heritage to a diverse range of options tailored to the next generation of fast-casual food enthusiasts," said CMO Ted Asbury of WOWorks.

On Wednesday, the first Z!EATS restaurant opened its door in the Upper West Side of Atlanta.

"Expanded menu offerings at Z!EATS include new soups, salads, and sandwiches, as well as a variety of grain bowls and specialty mac and cheese options like 'Ladled Lobster' featuring classic mac, lobster bisque, and pie crust topping," according to Tomorrow's News Today - Atlanta.

Brian Farras, the chief development officer Z!EATS and WOWorks said that the new brand has the potential to expanding to 500 restaurants across the country in over the next five years.

All of WOWorks' 50 ZOUP! locations, including the one in Epicerie Plaza at Cascades Overlook in Sterling, would be converting to Z!EATS, said a company spokesman.

A online store page for Z!EATS-Fairfax has already been created as part of the company's existing ZOUP! website.

Patch reached out to WOWorks for more details about the opening of the Z!EATS restaurant in Fairfax City but no response was returned.
