• Blacksburg teacher tops in western Virginia (montcova.com) — A former Floyd County High School language teacher who moved to Floyd in 2008 has just been named Region 6 Teacher of the Year for his work teaching French at Blacksburg High School. Jonathan Marye’s innovative, highly interactive approach now influences classrooms across southwest Virginia, including through a world language consortium and a global “music madness” project connecting students with French speakers worldwide. 
• Glenvar girls pull near upset of Floyd (salemtimes-register.com) — Floyd County’s softball team edged Glenvar 8-7 with a five-run seventh-inning rally, including a three-run homer, after trailing most of the game. The tight win came just after Glenvar’s ceremony naming its baseball field for assistant coach Larry Wood, and highlighted strong hitting on both sides before Floyd’s Buffaloes finally shut down a late Highlander comeback.
