Two treated after lightning strike at Radford Army Ammunition Plant (wdbj7.com) — Two security workers at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant were taken for observation after a lightning strike caused a power outage and brief vapor venting early Tuesday. Nearby residents may have heard shelter-in-place alarms, but Army officials say there is currently no danger to the surrounding community while emergency teams continue monitoring the situation.

2. Radford named Certified Crime Prevention Community (radfordnewsjournal.com) — Radford’s police department has earned designation as a Certified Crime Prevention Community, a recognition held by only 17 Virginia localities. The honor highlights strong partnerships like the Radford Youth-Adult Partnership and focused efforts to protect youth and older residents, with special credit given to Captain Emily Hite and the department’s community-oriented work.

3. James Christopher 'Chris' Berry (pcpatriot.com) — Radford-area families are mourning James Christopher “Chris” Berry, who was born in Radford in 1970 and later passed away in California after battling kidney cancer. His mother now lives in Fairlawn, and many relatives remain in the New River Valley. Friends and family can attend his memorial service May 7 at Bower Funeral Home in Pulaski.

LeMay, Lori Jean (nrvnews.com) — Radford readers may remember Dr. Lori LeMay, a longtime Radford University anthropology and geography professor whose teaching and Appalachian research shaped many local students. She recently passed away at her Newport home, and family will host a June 6 celebration of life on Sinking Creek. Her story spans Navy family life, global travel, and decades of passionate teaching tied closely to Radford.
