2019 GW Parkway Classic: Details, Block Party For Spectators
The 35th annual race follows George Washington's frequent route from Mount Vernon to Old Town Alexandria.
ALEXANDRIA, VA—Every year, runners take George Washington's route from Mount Vernon to Old Town Alexandria in the George Washington Parkway Classic. The 35th annual race will take place Sunday, April 28 at 8 a.m.
Held by Pacers Running, the race draws thousands of participants (and spectators) from around the region and country. The event features a 10 miler, 5K and Sugar Shack kids' dash. The 10 miler starts at Mount Vernon while the 5K starts at Belle Haven Marina. Both end at Oronoco Bay Park.
After the race, participants receive free tacos and a beer garden run by Port City Brewing Company. Top finishers overall and in age and gender groups receive prizes. All runners receive medals for participating.

Hotel Indigo will host a block party for spectators and runners starting at 8 a.m. There will be a DJ, cheer station, poster making, and doughnuts and breakfast sandwiches for sale from the Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken food truck. Sotheby’s will provide water for runners and the DJ, while the hotel will have poster supplies to cheer on runners. Lululemon will set up a cheering station, and Pizzeria Paradiso will offer complimentary breakfast biscotti.
There is limited parking at the start line, so participants are encouraged to utilize free shuttles. Pre-race shuttles for race participants only will be at the following locations:

- Alexandria/Fairfax Street
- Alexandria/Eisenhower Avenue
- Arlington/Pentagon City (10 Mile runners only); RSVP required
- DC-G Street, NW Pick Up (10 mile runners only); RSVP required
Post-race shuttles will pick up on Fairfax Street from 8 a.m.-11:45 a.m. and go to the King Street Metro, Pacers Alexandria, Eisenhower Avenue, and Pentagon City.
