The proposed budget calls for keeping the Fairfax County real estate tax rate the same at $1.14 per $100 of assessed value. Even without a tax rate change, 2022 residential assessments increased by an average 9.57 percent, which would increase residential tax bills by an average $666. The average residential assessment increase in the Mount Vernon District is 9.88 percent. The county executive's budget proposal fully funds the FCPS transfer request and leaves $79.26 million unallocated for the Board of Supervisors to consider.
On March 8, the Board of Supervisors will decide on the maximum real estate tax rate that can be approved. Budget hearings are planned April 12 to 14, followed by budget markup on April 22 and 26 and adoption on May 10. The School Board will adopt a budget on May 26 following the county budget approval.
