BELLE HAVEN, VA — Three people were displaced and pets were killed in a Belle Haven house fire that involved furniture igniting on June 9, according to Fairfax County and Rescue.

Around 8:31 p.m. on June 9, fire units responded to a single-family house in the 2300 block of Windsor Road. Firefighters found two pets dead. Two residents were home during the fire but escaped after hearing a smoke alarm. There were no injuries to residents or firefighters.

Investigators determined the fire started in the basement due to an overheated surge protector that ignited the furniture. Damages were estimated to be $100,000, according to the fire department.
