Historic Hybla: The Story of Hollin Hall

Find out more about Hollin Hall, one of Hybla Valley's many historic sites

Now a site for picturesque weddings, historic Hollin Hall at the Mount Vernon Unitarian Church was built in 1919 and has ties to the George Mason family.

The 16-room, brick Georgian manor house sits on Hybla Mountain at 1909 Windmill Lane.

The current Hollin Hall is actually the third of its kind, according to a report from the Fairfax County Inventory of Historic Sites. The family of George Mason built the original Hollin Hall in 1721 on Sherwood Hall Lane, the report states. A second Hollin Hall was built shortly thereafter, though that structure burned down in 1824.

In 1913, Harley Wilson, who was president of a company that operated Washington's electric streetcars, bought the entire 297-acre Hollin Hall property from the Mason family. On that site, he built what is now known as Hollin Hall.

In that time, it was visited by many of the era's highest members of society, including President Herbert Hoover, according to the Hall's Web site.
