Hit-And-Run Driver Attempted To Abandon Rifle In Route 1 Area

Police alleged that a driver in a hit-and-run crash had stolen credit cards and a rifle.

A driver located after a hit-and-run crash in the Mount Vernon Police District Sunday was charged for additional alleged crimes, Fairfax County Police say.

Around 12:48 p.m. officers located a vehicle in the area of Richmond Highway and South Kings Highway after a hit-and-run crash. A police spokesperson told Patch in an email the striking driver crashed into another car, whose driver went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The alleged striking driver, Carole Jacobus, 59, of Alexandria, is a convicted felon, according to police. Officers reportedly saw the driver discard a rifle and found her with stolen credit cards and narcotics.

Jacobus was charged with felony hit and run, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession with the intent to sell schedule I/II narcotics, possession of schedule I/II narcotics while possessing a firearm and six counts of credit card theft. She was held without bond.
