Mount Vernon Plaza Shooting With Infant In Car Leads To Charges For Man

A man was charged in relation to the shooting of a woman at Mount Vernon Plaza, and another woman was arrested on unrelated warrants.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA — The Saturday shooting at the Mount Vernon Plaza shopping center that critically injured a woman while her infant was in the car led to two arrests.

Police had responded to the shopping center in the 7700 block of Richmond Highway around 3:49 p.m. Saturday. A woman was found with an upper body gunshot wound and went to the hospital with suspected life-threatening injuries. The woman remains in critical condition.

The woman's infant was in the car during the shooting but was not harmed. The infant was put in the care of a relative.

Police say the two suspects and victim know each other. Detectives believe Montez Damone-Faggins, 29, of Front Royal, shot the woman. He was charged with malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

A passenger in the car, Kayla Thornton, 28, of Woodbridge, was determined to have outstanding warrants from another locality, according to police. She was arrested and held on a secured bond.
