Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria, Va. will perform its spring ballet, Coppelia, performed by MSA youth ballet students on Sun., Apr. 28 and Sun., May 5 with two shows each day, 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The performance is at the Metropolitan School of the Arts Black Box Theatre in Alexandria, Va. Coppelia is the story of Swanhilda, a young girl who appears magically to bring a doll to life. The show is geared toward all-ages, and families are welcome. Tickets are $15 per person, go to www.metropolitanarts.org to purchase.

The story of Coppelia is about Swanilda who is engaged to Franz but he has his eye on the mysterious girl sitting on the balcony of Dr. Coppélius’s house. Franz doesn’t realize that she is a doll whom the toymaker is trying to bring to life and when Swanilda and her friends sneak into the doctor’s workshop it looks as though he has succeeded. Love triumphs over all in this comedy of mistaken identity and the finale is a joyful celebration of the lovers’ wedding. Coppélia is an enchanting, family ballet, perfect for young and old alike.

“Our Metropolitan Youth Ballet elegantly performs this favorite, magical story of Coppelia, and brings the excitement and adventure of Swanhilda to the stage,” said Melissa Dobbs, executive director and founder of Metropolitan School of the Arts of Alexandria, Va.
