"Senior Moments" Original Musical-Comedy opens in Alexandria
4th Annual ARHA stage play taking things to the next level with "Senior Moments"

“Senior Moments”, written by Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) employee Jason Ellis, is the fourth in an annual series of exploration behind the scenes of underserved and underrepresented groups in Alexandria, VA. It is part comedy, and part inspirational, while packaged around a rich display of artistic expressions spanning various genres and styles. At The Senior Center @ Charles Houston in 2014 Alexandria, we find four senior citizens who are excited and appreciative of the opportunity to be interviewed and share their life experiences, spanning the 1950s until the present. The action that follows involves several flashbacks to their former years, unearthing philosophical truths and many life lessons for the next generation.
This theatrical adaptation was loosely culled from actual interviews that were done with senior citizens from the aforementioned location to provide the context and historical relevance. The writer does not shy away from political hot topics such as race relations, ageism, color prejudices, family values, religion and inequality and in the process, encourages thoughtful discourse. The family friendly production features over 40 cast members from across the DC metro area performing stand our pieces such as “Krunch Bunch” and “Hat Tea” which are a part of 12 original musical compositions in the show.
This year’s production is being done as a fundraiser for programs in support of underserved youth in the city of Alexandria, and is done in partnership with ARHA, Alexandria City Public Schools, Alexandria Black History Museum, Alexandria Arts Commission, Alexandria Chapter of the NAACP, and 4 City of Alexandria agencies. The show will run on November 14, 15, 21, 22 starting at 6:30P.M. at the Lee Center located at 1108 Jefferson Street, Alexandria, VA and tickets can be purchased at the door for $15 general admission.
