Matthew, a former college football player, was previously a volunteer for a private school’s football team in Charlottesville and is an employee at UVA Hospital. The headmaster of the school sent out a letter to parents saying Matthew would no longer be working with the team “while this matter is being clarified and resolved,” CBS-6 reported. He was suspended without pay from his job as a nursing assistant at UVA Hospital.
Police arrested Matthew in Texas after a resident called police about a man camping on a beach in Gilchrist, just north of Galveston. The area is off of Interstate 10 and is more than an 18-hour drive from Charlottesville.
Matthew was last seen in Charlottesville Saturday afternoon by state and federal officials who were trying to keep tabs on him after he left the city’s police station. He came to the station with family, asking for a lawyer. He left about an hour later without talking to police about Graham. Later that day, police charged him with reckless driving but did not pull him over.
Matthew was the last person seen with Graham, who has been missing since Saturday, Sept. 13.
In Texas Wednesday, the arresting police officer noted in his report that Matthew gave another name to him when asked and also said he did not have I.D., the Galveston newspaper reported. However he was driving his sister’s car and after the police ran the plate number, Matthew was arrested. The car and plate number were in a wanted poster issued by police.
