West Potomac Clears Up Rumor About Student With Weapon

Investigations determined the student did not have a weapon or pose a risk to the school.

BELLE HAVEN — West Potomac High School quelled a rumor about student reportedly planning to bring a weapon to school.

The rumor started after two students had a fight in the hallway of the Quander building on Wednesday, Sept. 18, according to a letter from Principal Tangy Millard. An uninvolved student reportedly heard one of the students involved in the fight would bring a weapon to school for self defense if needed.

This statement was reported to the school resource officer and Fairfax County Police, which launched an investigation. The student told the school resource officer he or she did not have a weapon. Police contacted the student and the student’s family and determined there is no risk to the school.
