2 Displaced After Garage Outlet Sparks Fire In Rose Hill

Fire investigators determined an outlet powering a garage door opener started the fire last week.

Fire investigators determined an electrical issue in the garage door opener outlet started a blaze in a Rose Hill townhouse last Monday. Two residents were displaced after the fire.

Fairfax County and Alexandria firefighters had responded to the fire in the 3800 block of Elmwood Towne Way around 7:58 p.m. Monday, April 23. The three-story home showed fire coming from the top of the garage. Crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire in the garage. No one was injured.

The one resident home at the time safely escaped after discovering smoke in the garage. Smoke alarms activated after the resident found the fire.

An initial damage estimate is $87,500. The residents have declined Red Cross assistance.
