2019 Primary Election: Absentee Voting, Deadlines For Fairfax Co.
The primary election will determine candidates running for Board of Supervisors and the Virginia General Assembly.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VAāAbsentee voting is about to begin for the June 11 primary election in Fairfax County. The primary election will determine candidates for the November general election for Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Virginia House of Delegates, State Senate and Commonwealth's Attorney. The Fairfax County Public Schools board election will take place in November.
Absentee voting will open on April 26 through June 8 at the Fairfax County Government Center, Office of Elections, Conference Rooms 2/3, 12000 Government Center Pkwy, Fairfax, VA 22035. Absentee voting is an alternative to voting on Election Day for those unable to make it to the polls. A Virginia resident can cast an absentee ballot if he or she is:
- A student attending college or university outside of locality of residence in Virginia
- A spouse of student attending college or university outside locality of residence in Virginia
- Have personal business, work or vacation outside the county of residence on Election Day
- Working and commuting for 11 or more hours, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., on Election Day
- A "first responder" (firefighter, law enforcement, emergency medical technician, search and rescue)
- Have a disability or illness
- A caregiver for a family member confined at home.
- Pregnant
- Confined (awaiting trial or convicted of a misdemeanor)
- An electoral board member, registrar, officer of election, or custodian of voting equipment
- Attending a religious obligation
- Active Duty Merchant Marine or Armed Forces
- Spouse or dependent living with a member of Active Duty Merchant Marine or Armed Forces
- Temporarily residing outside of US
- Temporarily residing outside of US for employment or spouse or dependent residing with employee
- An authorized representative of candidate or party serving inside the polling place
- Granted a protective order issued by or under the authority of a court of competent jurisdiction
In- person absentee voting hours at the government center are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, June 1 and June 8.

Voters can also cast their ballots Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at these locations:
- Franconia Governmental Center
- Herndon Fortnightly Library
- Lorton Library
- Mason Governmental Center
- McLean Governmental Center
- Mount Vernon Governmental Center
- North County Governmental Center
- Providence Community Center
- Sully Governmental Center
- West Springfield Governmental Center
An acceptable form of photo identification is required for in-person voting in Virginia. Residents can obtain a free voter ID at the Fairfax County Office of Elections.

Voters can also request an absentee ballot by mail by June 4 at 5 p.m. To submit an application online, visit vote.elections.virginia.gov. Applications can also be downloaded here or picked up at county governmental centers and Fairfax County library branches. If you're completing a physical copy, you can scan and email the application to absenteeballot@fairfaxcounty.gov, mail to the Office of Elections at "PO Box 10161, Fairfax, VA 22038," or fax the application to the Office of Elections at 703-324-3725.
Ballots are mailed within three business days. Voters can return a completed ballot by mail or in-person to the Office of Elections. The deadline to return the completed absentee ballot is 7 p.m. on Election Day, June 11.

The following races are for the Democratic primary. There is no Republican primary in Fairfax County. Voters are not registered by party and can vote in any primary.

- Member House of Delegates, 38th and 49th Districts
- Commonwealth's Attorney
- Chairman Board of Supervisors
- Member Board of Supervisors, Braddock District
- Member Board of Supervisors, Hunter Mill District
- Member Board of Supervisors, Lee District
- Member Board of Supervisors, Providence District

- April 26: In-person absentee voting opens
- May 20: Voter registration deadline for primary election (5 p.m. in-person or by mail and 11:59 p.m. online)
- June 4: Deadline to apply for an absentee ballot, 5 p.m. by mail, fax and online
- June 8: Deadline for in-person absentee voting, 5 p.m.
- June 11: Election Day; polls open from 6 a.m.-7 p.m.; deadline for returning an absentee ballot by 7 p.m.
