7 Displaced After Fire Originating In Kingstowne Townhouse

The Sept. 13 fire damaged two townhouses and displaced residents from both.

KINGSTOWNE, VA — A Sept. 13 fire at a Kingstowne townhouse displaced seven residents in two townhouses and damaged both homes, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

Multiple 911 calls came in before Fairfax County, Alexandria and Fort Belvoir firefighters responded to the fire around 3:14 p.m. in the 6000 block of Wescott Hills Way. A second alarm was requested as units encountered significant fire in the rear of the middle unit home.

One resident was home at the time and was alerted by a neighbor. That resident evacuated before the fire department arrival. Crews utilized multiple handlines to confine and extinguish the fast-moving fire. No residents or firefighters were injured.

Investigators determined the fire started in the grill on the rear deck and extended to the structures. Smoke alarms did not activate due to the location of the fire.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue estimated the damages were around $250,000. The total accounts for damages at both townhouses. The displaced residents accepted Red Cross assistance.
