Armed Carjacking In Franconia Area Leads To Arrest: Police
A suspect has been arrested and charged, but the vehicle and its contents have not been recovered.
FRANCONIA, VA — A suspect has been charged in the armed carjacking Wednesday morning in Franconia, according to Fairfax County Police.
The armed carjacking happened around 8:03 a.m. in a parking lot in the 6100 block of Franconia Road. The suspect approached the driver of a 2020 Ford transport van with Peloton written on the side and displayed a gun. The vehicle was stolen, but no injuries were reported.
Video surveillance helped detectives identify the suspect. On Aug. 26, Metropolitan Police in DC arrested Douglas Whitley, 38, of Washington DC. He was charged with carjacking and remains in custody of Metropolitan Police pending extradition to Fairfax County.

The stolen Ford transport van and contents of the van have not yet been recovered. Police did not disclose what was inside the vehicle.
