Blender The Culprit Of A Springfield Fire
A fire started by a blender caused more than $300K in damages at a Springfield home.
SPRINGFIELD, VA—A townhouse fire in Springfield started by a blender caused over $300K in damages over the weekend, fire officials say.
Around 4:50 p.m on Friday, October 20, Fairfax County and Fort Belvoir firefighters responded to the townhouse fire in the 7700 block of Lemoyne Lane. They located the fire in the basement of a two-story, end unit home. The fire had begun to spread up the side of the house through a basement window, and firefighters were able to contain it to the basement.
Four occupants were home at the time of the fire. One resident had discovered the fire and alerted the others before the smoke alarm had gone off. All were able to safely escape and there were no injuries.

Fire investigators determined the fire started the basement due to a malfunctioning blender. Damages are estimated at $303,562.
The home's six occupants were displaced, and they have declined Red Cross assistance.
