Police say the man stole a VDOT truck and was involved in hit-and-runs in the Springfield area.

SPRINGFIELD, VA—A man is in custody after carjacking a Virginia Department of Transportation truck and causing two hit-and-runs.
Virginia State Police said the first crash happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday, WTOP reported. Authorities received a call about a hit-ad-run involving a black car on the westbound Capital Beltway. The car also hit another car while fleeing the initial crash.
The crash ended up damaging the suspect's car, so he fled in a VDOT car that arrived to the scene. He drove the VDOT truck onto Interstate 95 south, striking another car and fleeing again. The suspect fled on foot when the truck stopped functioning properly.
