Celebrate National Sangria Day Saturday in Springfield

Look for this tasty treat at local eateries including Chuy's at Springfield Town Center.

With all the holiday hubbub, how about taking time to stop and celebrate National Sangria Day on Saturday?

According to Vaya Madrid, official accounts place the U.S. introduction to sangria at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, when it was served to visitors of the Pavilion of Spain from the Taberna Madrid kiosk. Since then Americans have been quick to embrace the Spanish cocktail, and in recent years many bars serve a signature sangria to their guests.

That includes Chuy’s, Northern Virginia’s new Tex-Mex joint, which offers a sangria featuring Burgundy wine, Torada Triple Sec, El Jimador Silver Tequila, fresh squeezed lime juice, orange juice, apple juice and Monin blueberry syrup.

Priced at $6.95, the refreshing beverage is available frozen (you can even swirl it with their classic, frozen margarita) or on the rocks.

Sangria is available at both Chuy’s Northern Virginia locations in Springfield (6793 Springfield Mall; (703) 971-7072) and Fairfax (11219 Lee Hwy; (703) 364-5933).
