Springfield Driver Identified In Christmas Night Crash

A Springfield driver died late Christmas night after a car overturned and caught fire on the Capital Beltway.

SPRINGFIELD, VA—A driver is dead after a late night crash on Christmas in Springfield.

Around 11:55 p.m., a driver was heading westbound on a Capital Beltway off-ramp when the car struck a barrier wall, Virginia State Police say. The car overturned and crashed on the other side of the wall. It caught fire, appearing completely engulfed when first responders arrived.

The driver, Gemma G. Duffy, 24, of Springfield, died on scene, police say.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
