DWI Checkpoint Set For Franconia District Friday
Fairfax County Police announced the checkpoint will happen somewhere in the Franconia Police District.

Fairfax County Police will be conducting a DWI checkpoint in the Franconia Police District Friday, July 20. A location and time have not been announced, but checkpoints typically happen at night.
During checkpoints, hundred of drivers pass through and are screened for alcohol use. Police remind residents to not drink and drive. In Virginia, the legal limit of blood alcohol concentration is 0.08 percent.
In 2017, Fairfax County Police made 2,139 DWI arrests, an increase from 1,957 arrests in 2016 and 1,841 arrests in 2015. The penalty for a first-time DUI offense is an administrative license suspension for seven days, a minimum $250 fine (maximum $2,500), license revocation for one year, and other possible penalties. A second offense could carry jail time.
