Fatal Crash: Motorcyclist Dies On Scene In Springfield

Update: Police said a tractor trailer and motorcycle were involved in the fatal Springfield crash.

(Updated 8:22 p.m.) SPRINGFIELD, VA—One person was killed in a Tuesday afternoon crash in Springfield.

The Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating in the 7600 Backlick Road, where the accident happened in a southbound lane around 1:20 p.m. The accident involved a motorcycle and semi-tractor trailer. The truck was leaving a supply yard and made a left turn onto northbound Backlick Road. The motorcyclist was heading south and unable to stop, colliding with the rear wheels of the truck.

Reports say the motorcyclist was trapped after the crash and sustained serious injuries. Justin Wright, 26, of Lorton was pronounced dead on scene. The truck driver was uninjured.

Police believe speed may be a factor in the crash, but have not determined if drugs or alcohol were involved.

Traffic around the accident site was closed off for hours as police investigated. Backlick Road and southbound Franconia-Springfield Parkway is open as of six p.m.
