Fire At Springfield Storage Unit Causes $133K In Damages

A person passing by had smelled smoke and discovered the fire at the storage facility.

SPRINGFIELD, VA—Fire investigators continue to look into a blaze that broke out at a Springfield storage facility Sunday.

Around 6:48 a.m., Fairfax County Fire and Rescue firefighters were called to a storage unit in the 6800 block of Commercial Drive. Units arrived to find smoke showing from several storage units and estimated an entire row of units was on fire.

A second alarm was requested, bringing in more firefighters from Fairfax County, the Alexandria Fire Department and Fort Belvoir Fire and Emergency Services. The fire was quickly brought under control, and there were no injuries.

A person walking by had smelled smoke and discovered the fire at the storage facility. Fire investigators say the fire started in one storage unit, but the cause remains under investigation.

Red Cross assistance was not needed. There are no details on the extent of damages, but initial estimates total $133,911.
