Flies Swarm Kitchen At Kingstowne Restaurant

Health inspectors found fruit flies lingering in the kitchen at a Kingstowne restaurant.

KINGSTOWNE, VA — Fairfax County regularly conducts health inspections for local restaurants. The frequency of inspections on the type of food served and how it is prepared.

“In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,” states the Virginia Department of Health’s website.

Here are some of the violations from Kingstowne inspections in September. Among the violations were seven violations at Johnny's NY Style Pizzeria, including fruit flies in the kitchen. This was a repeat violation.

Chuy's: 6793 Springfield Mall, Springfield, VA 22150, last inspection: Sept. 13

violations: foods cold holding at improper temperatures, dirty utensils (both corrected), mold inside ice bin

Food Corner Kabob: 7031 Brookfield Plaza, Springfield, VA 22150, last inspection: Sept. 12

violations: raw meat stored over ready-to-eat food, lettuce and sliced tomato cold holding at improper temperatures (both corrected), food stored on floor in walk-in cooler, cooler not operating properly, accumulation of debris on non-food contact surfaces, drain flies and mice droppings in food prep area, floors under kitchen equipment in need of cleaning

Johnny's NY Style Pizzeria: 7011-G Manchester Boulevard, Alexandria, VA 22310, last inspection: Sept. 8

violations: improper method of cooling chicken and meatballs (corrected), cheese, garlic/oil mixture, pastas cold holding at improper temperatures, prep cooler not operating properly, cutting board not able to be properly sanitized due to deteriorated condition, fruit flies in kitchen
