Food Drive For Afghan Refugees Planned At Springfield Church
A church is committing $15,000 worth of items for a food drive, and other faith communities will support the food drive as well.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — A food drive for Afghan refugees is being planned Friday in Springfield with support from faith communities.
The food drive, spearheaded by New Heaven and New Earth Church, will be held Friday, Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. at 7512 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield. This location is the storage facility for the food drive at Springfield Church of Christ.
The food drive will collect culturally-sensitive items for refugees. New Heaven and New Earth Church has committed to donating $15,000 worth of food for the food drive. Other interfaith organizations and local Afghan restaurants will join in contributing donations.

The food drive aims to help Afghan refugees in Fairfax County. Disbursement is managed by Resettling Afghan Refugees Together.
"This food drive calls upon many organizations throughout Fairfax County to help new Afghan refugees feel as welcome and supported as possible, sending a strong message of local solidarity in a time when it is sorely needed," the church said in a news release.
