Fort Belvoir Helicopter Crashes in Maryland

A helicopter from the Fort Belvoir military base crashed on a Maryland golf course Monday.

FORT BELVOIR, VA -- A military helicopter crashed at the Breton Bay Golf Course in St. Mary's County, Md. Monday afternoon, Army officials said.

The helicopter was a UH-60 blackhawk, officials at Fort Belvoir base in Virginia said in a statement on Facebook. The crash occurred just before 2 p.m.

There were three crew members on board the helicopter, one of whom was evacuated by medical helicopter. There is no immediate information on injuries.

A spokesperson for the Maryland State Police told the Washington Post that two state police medevac helicopters were assisting. The scene of the crash is 61 miles south of Washington.
