Franconia Vigil To Be Held For Sri Lanka Victims

All are welcome to join the vigil to remember the victims and families impacted by the bombings in Sri Lanka.

FRANCONIA, VA—The interfaith community will gather for a vigil in remembrance of the Sri Lanka attack victims on Thursday, April 25 from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. The vigil will be held at MakeSpace, 6082 Franconia Road, Suite D Alexandria, VA.

The vigil will feature remarks by international and local interfaith leaders followed by a moment of silence, reflection, and prayer. Candles and refreshments will be provided. The event is free, but RSVPs are required.

"All are welcome to attend as we stand in solidarity against the hatred, intolerance, and ideologies that perpetuate these acts of violence," states the event description from MakeSpace, which is hosting the event.

The death count from the Easter Sunday attacks has risen to over 350 people, The Washington Post reported. The attacks happened at churches and hotels as Christians celebrated Easter Sunday. Sri Lankan officials described the eight bombings as terrorist attacks carried out by suicide bombers.

Several Americans were among the dead in the blasts, the deadliest violence the South Asian island country has seen since a bloody civil war ended a decade ago, according to AP. One of the victims was a fifth grade student at Sidwell Friends School in DC.
