Three Pets Die In Heavy Fire At Springfield Home

Three pets were in the Springfield home when a heavy fire broke out.

SPRINGFIELD, VA—Firefighters responded to a heavy fire at a Springfield two-story home Friday afternoon.

Crew arrived around 3:35 p.m. to find fire showing from all four sides of the home and the roof in the 7800 block of Cherry Orchard Court.

A second alarm had been requested, and it took about 35 minutes to put out the fire. Fire officials say the two residents were not inside, but their three pets have died. A neighbor had discovered the fire and called 911.

It's been a busy day for the department, as a wind storm knocked over trees and power lines, leaving hundreds of thousands without power in Fairfax County. Fire and rescue crews responded to 47 calls involving a tree falling into a house, and 136 calls involving downed power lines just between 1 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday.
