Jogger Assaulted In Island Creek Area, Man Arrested: Police

Fairfax County Police allege the man assaulted the jogger on a trail before a witness came to the rescue.

FRANCONIA, VA — A woman jogging on a trail in the Island Creek area of Franconia was assaulted and rescued by a witness Wednesday, according to Fairfax County Police.

Around 10:30 a.m., officers responded to the 6600 block of Audrey Kay Court for an assault report. According to police, the victim was jogging on a trail near the end of Thomas Grant Drive when an unknown man assaulted her. The attacked fled when a witness came to the victim's rescue. The woman went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police searched the area, located and arrested the man. Vincent Wesley, 21, of Centreville, was charged with malicious wounding and strangulation. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held without bond.
