Larysa Kautz Announces Campaign For Lee District Supervisor Seat
Supervisor Jeff McKay is running for chairman of the Board of Supervisors, leaving the Lee District seat open.

Larysa Kautz, a lawyer and disability rights advocate from Groveton, announced she is seeking the Lee District Supervisor seat in 2019. A Democrat, she is the first candidate to make the announcement for the seat. Supervisor Jeff McKay is not seeking re-election since he is running for chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
A political newcomer, Kautz currently serves as chief of staff and general counsel at Melwood, a nonprofit that gives jobs to people with disabilities in the DC region. She was previously a partner at Schaner & Lubitz, PLLC and counsel at Bingham McCutchen, LLP, according to her company biography. She has also assisted the Obama Administration and the Foundation for the National Archives as pro bono counsel.
She also serves on the Fairfax County Advisory Social Services Board, Fairfax County Adult and Community Education Advisory Committee and Virginia State Rehabilitation
Council for the Blind and Vision Impaired. In 2017, she completed Emerge Virginia, a training program for Democratic women to run for office.

Kautz holds a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School and a Master of Laws degree in tax law from the Georgetown University Law Center.
According to her campaign announcement, Kautz is running "to keep Lee District, Fairfax County and the NOVA region a wonderful place to live, work, and play."

"I understand the challenges our district and our county face from multiple angles and am very interested in listening so that I can make the best possible decisions for our great community," she says in a release announcing her campaign.
The campaign will have an official launch party Jan. 26 at El Paso Restaurant, 6151 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria. RSVPs are requested.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors election will happen on Nov. 5, 2019. The new board term will begin on Jan. 1, 2020.
