Man Dies In Springfield Area Construction Accident: Police

Fairfax County Police are responding to a construction site on General Washington Drive.

Fairfax County Police say a man died in a construction accident in the greater Springfield area Wednesday afternoon.

Officers and the fire department responded to a report of an unresponsive man in the 5700 block of General Washington Drive after 2 p.m. Police believe the man became pinned between an elevated hydraulic lift and a metal beam in a building under construction.

David Raikes, 51, of Mechanicsville was pronounced dead at the scene with injuries to the upper body. The medical examiner is conducting an autopsy. No foul play is suspected.
