Memorial Day: What's Open And Closed In Fairfax County
Here's a breakdown of what is open and closed on Memorial Day in Fairfax County.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Fairfax County government offices will be closed for Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, as well as libraries and schools. But services like public transit, recreation centers and trash pickup will operate, although on a different schedule.
Plus, there will be a special offer for all those that have served. Fairfax County Parks will be open and offering free admission to rec centers and lakefront parks to active duty military and veterans on Monday. RECenter admission includes the use of pools, fitness rooms, drop-in fitness classes, gyms and mini-golf. Lakefront parks include carousel rides, boat rides, train rides, mini-golf and camping. This offer excludes the Water Mine, regulation golf and food vendors.

Here are the openings/closings to be aware of on Memorial Day.
- County offices – closed
- Office of Elections – closed, no in-person absentee voting
- Fairfax County Public Schools and Administrative Offices – closed
- Libraries – closed
- Animal shelter – closed
- Trash pickup – Customers covered under Fairfax County collection services will have a regular collection schedule. Contact private service providers for holiday hours.
- Recycling – I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) will operate on a regular schedule.
- Recreation centers – Fairfax County Rec centers will open at regular times and close at 6 p.m. The only Rec Center closed is George Washington RECenter.
- Community centers – Neighborhood and Community Services programs, activities and facilities will be closed.
- Parks and historic sites – Colvin Run Mill and Sully Historic Site are open 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. E.C. Riverbend Park Visitor Center, Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows Nature Centers are open noon - 5 p.m. Frying Pan Farm Park's farm is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the visitor center is closed. Green Spring Gardens' Horticultural Center is open noon - 4:30 p.m. and the Historic House is closed. Visit the county's website for more information on county parks.

- Fastran – not operating Monday
- Metrorail – Information available at www.wmata.com
- Metrobus – Information available at www.wmata.com
- Parking – Parking is free at park and ride locations and Metro parking lots.
- State offices and courts – closed
- Liquor stores – All Virginia ABC stores will close at 6 p.m.
