Murders Of Springfield Women Unsolved After 13 Years
Police have not identified the suspect responsible for murdering the two women.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — Fairfax County detectives are reviving efforts to solve the cold case murders of two Springfield women.
The murders of the women in their 70s happened within a four-month period in 2006. The victims, Marion Marshall and Marion Newman, lived alone two miles from each other but were not believed to be acquainted. Autopsies confirmed the cause of death for both women was strangulation and blunt force trauma.
Marshall, a resident in the 6600 block of Bostwick Drive, was last seen alive on Aug. 14, 2006. Surveillance footage showed she visited a grocery store at the Bradlick Shopping Center in Annandale around 11 a.m. that day. Detectives believe she encountered the killer when she was unloading groceries at home. A friend found her dead that evening, and there was no indication of forced entry.

Newman was last seen alive on Nov. 19, 2006 visiting her mother at a Springfield senior living community. She was set to visit again the next day but never showed up. A friend found her dead inside her home in the 7100 block of Reservoir Road on Nov. 21, 2006.
DNA evidence could not identify the suspect but confirmed the same person was responsible for both murders. Evidence also confirmed both women were sexually assaulted.
Detectives are working with a DNA technology company to assist with identifying the suspect. Sketches released by police indicate what the suspect may have looked like at ages 25, 40 and 55. The age of the suspect is unknown.
