NoVA Reports Over 400 New Cases For Second Time In Months
The northern and southwest regions each had over 400 new coronavirus cases on Friday.
VIRGINIA — On Friday, 1,568 new coronavirus cases were reported by the Virginia Department of Health, bringing the seven-day case average to 1,304.
Across Virginia cases have been over 1,000 for 11 straight days, contributing to a recent increase in the seven-day average. A month ago on Oct. 6, the seven-day average was 809 as days with cases below 1,000 were more common.
The total number of cases per 100,000 people over the last 14 days was 205.3. The seven-day average of new daily cases per 100,000 people was 15.3.

By region, new cases include 442 in the southwest region (408.7 seven-day average), 412 in the northern region (318.4 seven-day average), 249 in the central region (203.1 seven-day average) 244 in the eastern region (201 seven-day average), and 221 in the northwest region (173.1 seven-day average).
The northern region had over 400 new cases on only four days since cases fell dramatically in mid-June: July 27, Aug. 7, Oct. 8 and Nov. 6. However, Aug. 7 and Oct. 8 were days when the VDH reported backlogs from multiple days. Northern Virginia's breakdown of new cases includes 31 in Alexandria, 47 in Arlington, 183 in Fairfax County, one in Fairfax City, 50 in Loudoun County, 10 in Manassas, one in Manassas Park, 90 in Prince William County. The region's total accounts for one case removed in Falls Church.

Current statewide hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients stand at 1,057. The seven-day average of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Virginia is 1,036.7. A month ago on Oct. 5, the seven-day average of hospitalizations was 905.4.
The current number of hospitalizations includes 282 patients in the southwest region (seven-day average of 287), 241 in the northern region (seven-day average of 236.1), 229 in the central region (seven-day average of 205.4), 167 in the eastern region (seven-day average of 179.1), and 138 in the northwest region (seven-day average of 129).
The 1,057 statewide hospitalizations include 96 patients on ventilators and 216 in the intensive care units, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. As of Thursday, ventilator use among all hospital patients stands at 36 percent, and ICU occupancy is at 81 percent occupancy. No hospitals are reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment or other medical supplies in the next 72 hours.
The seven-day of positive PCR tests is 5.9 percent across Virginia as of Nov. 2. A month ago on Oct. 6, the average was 4.8 percent. Averages by region are 9.7 percent in the southwest region, 5.7 percent in the central region, 5.3 percent in the central region, 5 percent in the eastern region, and 4 percent in the northwest region. Statewide, 2,743,229 PCR tests have been completed, an increase of 24,023 from Thursday.
Northern Virginia is one of three regions with moderate community transmission for the week ending on Oct. 31, according to the VDH weekly transmission extent dashboard. The northern, northwest and eastern regions have moderate transmission with fluctuating trends, while the central region has substantial transmission with fluctuating trends. The near and far southeast regions have substantial transmission with an increasing trend.
The dashboard of K-12 schools reporting outbreaks is updated every Friday. To date, there have been 35 schools reporting outbreaks, defined as two or more laboratory-confirmed cases. Nine of these are considered "outbreaks in progress." Outbreaks at two Northern Virginia locations, Episcopal High School in Alexandria and Dominion High School in Loudoun County, are classified as closed. K-12 outbreaks are associated with 237 cases and no deaths.

- Alexandria: 4,444 cases, 331 hospitalizations, 76 deaths; increase of 31 cases and two hospitalizations
- Arlington County: 4,919 cases, 543 hospitalizations, 154 deaths; increase of 47 cases and one hospitalization 4,872 cases, 542 hospitalizations, 154 deaths; increase of 18 cases and one hospitalization
- Fairfax County: 24,909 cases, 2,325 hospitalizations, 595 deaths; increase of 183 cases and 11 hospitalizations, 10 deaths removed
- Fairfax City: 166 cases, 15 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of one case
- Falls Church: 77 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths; one case removed
- Loudoun County: 8,225 cases, 498 hospitalizations, 134 deaths; increase of 50 cases, three hospitalizations and one death
- Manassas: 2,083 cases, 132 hospitalizations, 27 deaths; increase of 10 cases
- Manassas Park: 665 cases, 58 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of one case
- Prince William County: 15,013 cases, 1,024 hospitalizations, 224 deaths; increase of 90 cases, one hospitalization and one death
- Fredericksburg: 612 cases, 54 hospitalizations, six deaths; increase of three cases and one hospitalization
- Spotsylvania County: 2,583 cases, 157 hospitalizations, 55 deaths; increase of 17 cases
- Stafford County: 2,552 cases, 174 hospitalizations, 21 deaths; increase of 14 cases and one hospitalization
