Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle, Dies In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, VA—A man died days after being struck by a car in Springfield, according to Fairfax County Police.

The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 7200 block of Commerce Street. Police say a Ford Edge heading north on Commerce Road hit the pedestrian as he was walking in the road. The pedestrian did not appear to be in a crosswalk.

The pedestrian, Tomas Maldonado, 52, of Springfield, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon.

The driver stayed on scene to cooperate with police. Detectives do not believe speed or alcohol were factors for the driver, but alcohol was a factor for the pedestrian.

Detectives continue to investigate the crash.
