Police Investigate Human Remains Near Capital Beltway

Police are conducting a follow-up search of human remains east of the Springfield interchange.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Fairfax County Police are on scene to investigate human remains near the Capital Beltway on Friday.

Police are searching near the Capital Beltway in the area of Van Dorn Street, which is east of the Springfield interchange. According to a video update from police, the follow-up search comes after a resident located bones on Sept. 29. Those bones were later to be human.

The police department's search and rescue team is looking for items related to the discovery of the human remains. The search could help police determine if the death was natural or a criminal matter. Police believe the bones have been there for some time and do not pose a threat to public safety.
