Residents, Pets Displaced By Rose Hill House Fire

ROSE HILL, VA — Two people and their two pets were displaced as a result of a Friday house fire in Rose Hill, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

The fire happened around 11:05 p.m. in the 3900 block of Ivanhoe Lane, which is in the Wilton Woods neighborhood. Fairfax County and Alexandria fire units responded to find smoke showing from the front of the single-family home. Units found a fire in the kitchen that extended to the second floor and attic. The fire was quickly extinguished.

No injuries were reported. According to the fire department, a resident had discovered the fire on the stove top, and both tried unsuccessfully to put it out. Residents evacuated safely before the fire department arrived, and firefighters rescued a cat and returned it unharmed to the owner.

Fire investigators say the cause of the fire was unattended food on the stove top, which ignited nearby combustibles. Damages were estimated to be $60,000. Red Cross assistance was declined.
