Shed Fire Spreads To Springfield Home, Displaces 3

There were no injuries reported from a heavy fire that spread from a shed to the attic of a home.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — Three people are displaced after a house fire that started in a shed in Springfield Thursday, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. There were no reported injuries.

Around 1:57 p.m. Thursday, units responded to a report of a fire spreading from a shed to a home in the 7400 block of Floyd Avenue. One resident had been home and heard and explosion outside. The resident found the woodshed and part of the home's exterior on fire. The resident evacuated and called 911.

The single-family home had heavy fire showing from one side when the fire department arrived. Units worked to put out the fire in the shed, and additional crews tackled the fire that spread to the home's attic. The fire was contained to the shed and attic.

Investigators determined an electrical event in the shed's electrical panel started the fire. Damages were estimated to be $93,750.

The displaced residents declined Red Cross assistance.
