Shoe Left Behind Helps Police Track Down Car Vandal

Police were able to find a car vandalism suspect in Springfield by looking for a man riding a bike with one shoe.

SPRINGFIELD, VA—In one recent car vandalism case, "if the shoe fits" really applied when police tracked down the suspect in Springfield Tuesday.

A car owner was leaving TownePlace Suites at 6245 Brandon Avenue around 9:20 p.m. when he saw the suspect breaking into his truck. The suspect fled on a bicycle, but he left behind a shoe in the truck.

Police were able to locate a man on a bicycle wearing one shoe and confirmed it matched the shoe found in the truck.

Samuel Bucey, 33, of Washington D.C. was arrested and charged with destruction of property, grand larceny and possession of a firearm by a non-violent felon.

Residential Burglary: 7500 block of Oldham Way, between 10:30 p.m. on 12/21/17 and 7:00 p.m. on 12/26/17. Someone broke into the residence and stole property.

Commercial Burglary/Destruction of Property: 6850 Versar Center, between 3:00 p.m. on 12/22/17 and 7:00 a.m. on 12/26/17. Someone entered two businesses and stole cash and property. The suspect is described as a white man, between 300 and 350 pounds, wearing a black face mask and hat, and a light grey jacket with dark clothing.
