Southwest VA Reports Highest Coronavirus Hospitalization Count
The southwest region recorded its highest number of COVID-19 hospital patients to date. The number is higher than Northern Virginia's count.
VIRGINIA — On Tuesday, the Virginia Department of Health reported 1,134 new coronavirus cases, bringing the cumulative case total to 175,409. There have been 12,320 hospitalizations and 3,600 deaths to date.
The southwest region leads the state in new daily cases, hospitalizations and positive averages of tests. New cases on Tuesday include 315 in the southwest region, 309 in the northern region, 200 in the central region, 168 in the eastern region, and 142 in the northwest region.
The southwest region's 276 current COVID-19 is its highest number so far during the pandemic. Other regional hospitalizations include 248 in the northern region, 229 in the central region, 210 in the eastern region and 118 in the northwest region.

Across Virginia, there are 1,081 current COVID-19 patients. That includes 106 patients on ventilators and 230 in the intensive care units, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association.
Ventilator use among all hospital patients stands at 28 percent capacity, and ICU occupancy it at 82 percent. The 2019 average for ICU occupancy in Virginia was 67 percent. No hospitals are reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment or other medical supplies in the next 72 hours.

The statewide seven-day positive average of positive PCR tests remains at 5 percent. To date, 2,543,515 PCR tests have been completed across Virginia. The regional averages are 4.1 percent in the northwest and eastern regions, 4.4 percent in the northern region, 5.1 percent in the central region, and 7.7 percent in the southwest region.
There are 39 reported outbreaks in K-12 settings to date. Other types of settings with outbreaks in Virginia are long-term care facilities (478 outbreaks), congregate settings (475 outbreaks) health care settings (97 outbreaks) correctional facilities (73 outbreaks) child care (61 outbreaks) and colleges or universities (37 outbreaks). K-12 outbreaks are associated with 186 total cases and no deaths.

- Alexandria: 4,248 cases, 325 hospitalizations, 74 deaths; increase of 18 cases
- Arlington County: 4,586 cases, 536 hospitalizations, 154 deaths; increase of 24 cases and three hospitalizations
- Fairfax County: 23,534 cases, 2,258 hospitalizations, 605 deaths; increase of 72 cases and 11 hospitalizations, one death removed
- Fairfax City: 160 cases, 14 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of two cases
- Falls Church: 75 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths
- Loudoun County: 7,817 cases, 478 hospitalizations, 130 deaths; increase of 33 cases and three hospitalizations
- Manassas: 2,043 cases, 132 hospitalizations, 27 deaths; increase of 11 cases
- Manassas Park: 644 cases, 57 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of two cases
- Prince William County: 14,162 cases, 991 hospitalizations, 223 deaths; increase of 147 cases and three hospitalizations
- Fredericksburg: 589 cases, 51 hospitalizations, six deaths; increase of four cases
- Spotsylvania County: 2,432 cases, 154 hospitalizations, 51 deaths; increase of 12 cases
- Stafford County: 2,341 cases, 168 hospitalizations, 20 deaths; increase of 13 cases
