Springfield Community Bridge Walk Returns In August

A ceremony and community covenant signing with Fort Belvoir follow the walk across Veterans Bridge.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — The Springfield Community Bridge Walk, an end-of-summer community tradition, returns for the 19th year on Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The event starts with a walk across Veterans Bridge to the American Legion Post 176. At 7:30 p.m., police will close the road, and participants will cross the bridge. A ceremony and community covenant signing with Fort Belvoir will be held at the Post, followed by a community gathering with food.

The walk begins at the intersection of Amherst Avenue and Bland Street at 7:30 p.m. with line-up at 7 p.m. The walk to the Post (6520 Amherst Avenue, Springfield), is a little over a quarter mile.

Springfield Community Bridge Walk is held by the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce and Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay.
