Suspects in Gun Battle, Robbery Taken to Fairfax County Jail: Police

The pair is charged in the violent May 21 jewelry store heist in Springfield.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- The two suspects charged with a May 21 jewelry store robbery and carjacking in Springfield have been extradited to Fairfax County to stand trial, the county police announced Thursday. 

William Timothy Franklin IV was transferred from Charles County, Md., and Jasminder Sethi was transported from Newark, N.J., the police said. As of Wednesday, the two men were being held without bond in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center in Fairfax City.

Both suspects are from Waldorf, Md., and were arrested on May 23, two days after the robbery. Franklin, 24, was apprehended in Waldorf and Sethi, 26, was arrested at Newark's airport. Police said Sethi was stopped after his name was entered into a national database.

Gunfire broke out at Brookfield Plaza in Springfield on the afternoon of Saturday, May 21, as one of the robbery suspects fled the Dubai Jewelry store, exchanging shots with a police officer who responded to the scene. A bystander was seriously wounded during the gun battle, the police said.

The suspect fled in a getaway car nearby, but got into a crash near Spring Village Drive, off the Fairfax County Parkway, the police said. The suspect then carjacked another vehicle and fled, but crashed again in the 7600 block of Hooes Road and fled on foot.
